Staying connected.

I recently watched a video about ordering a pizza via the Wii.

Reviving a Japan exclusive channel on an old console is already fascinating to me, but it reminded me of something a friend shared once. They said they kept their Wii on 24/7.

Whether or not that would affect the lifespan of the console a drastic amount isn’t something I know anything about, the concept is something I find very cool!

Gaming consoles weren’t actively online until that generation. Pairing that with the sleek, compact design of the Wii, it all felt very futuristic. The console even had a blue glowing light thanks to WiiConnect24.

The idea of a persistent console for everything from news, weather, entertainment (YouTube and Netflix), and gaming – meant to replace a traditional television experience still is a rad idea to me.

Of course we would later have smart tvs and phones with all the above, there was still something post-cyberpunk about integrating a console into your daily routine.

In recent years Nintendo has experienced a strong comeback in the world of console gaming but I can’t help but feel like they’ve lost their charm in the user interface department.

If nothing else tech preservationists and hobbyists continue to keep the dream alive and thats good enough for me.

The blog has a new theme and is far closer to how I wanted it to begin with.

Thanks for checking in.

About

Thanks for stopping by the Shrine. This is just a small space I’ve carved out on the net to collect everything from designs I’m working on, photos I take, or media I want to share.

You can also find me at:

neon shudder – my music, an ongoing project. mostly electronic, mostly instrumental, varying in theme and focus over the years. The name comes from the novel “Neuromancer” by William Gibson.

Phantom Port – my brand. It’s an outlet for creativity but does generally have a theme of cyberpunk and futuristic imagery. Some of it is fanart, a lot of it is original. You can also follow along on Instagram here.

My Bluesky –  Not sure how long I’ll be on here, or if I’ll even be active, but it’s better than the hellsite.
